Google Rolls Out Advanced Anti-Theft Features for Android: Theft Detection, Offline Lock, and Remote Lock

Google has started rolling out three new anti-theft features for Android devices: Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock. These new features are aimed at bolstering security for Android users by enhancing the ability to protect personal data in case of theft.

  1. 1- Theft Detection Lock: This feature uses AI and device sensors to detect theft-related movements, such as when a device is forcefully snatched from the user. If such a motion is detected, the phone’s screen will automatically lock to prevent unauthorized access to personal data. This protection even works if a thief is attempting to run away with the phone on foot, bike, or vehicle, providing an immediate safeguard.
  2. 2- Offline Device Lock: If a thief attempts to disconnect the phone from the internet to prevent location tracking, this feature will lock the screen automatically. It also activates if there are several unsuccessful authentication attempts. This ensures that even if the device goes offline, the thief will be unable to access the stored data.
  3. 3- Remote Lock: This feature allows users to lock their stolen phones remotely by using their phone number, which is helpful if accessing the Google Find My Device service is not possible. This can be activated from another trusted device, adding an additional layer of remote security for stolen devices.

These features are currently being rolled out for devices running Android 10 and above via Google Play Services. While some users in different regions are already receiving these updates, it is expected to take more time for the features to become available globally. Initially, the features were tested in Brazil and are now expanding to other regions, with full integration expected in the near future(PhoneArena)(Techopedia)(Devdiscourse)(9to5Google).
