India is preparing to implement non-tariff barriers on solar cell imports, with the aim of reducing dependence on Chinese imports and enhancing local manufacturing capabilities. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi emphasized that the government is considering extending the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) to solar cells. This move aligns with India’s ambitious goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, a target that requires a significant increase in domestic solar cell production beyond the current 6 GW(

mint).
