Avis, a global car rental giant, has disclosed that it experienced a significant cyberattack in early August 2024. The company reported that an unauthorized third party breached one of its business applications, compromising sensitive customer information, including names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, and possibly financial data. The breach occurred between August 3 and August 6, 2024, before Avis managed to cut off the attacker’s access and secure its systems.

In response to the incident, Avis has been working with cybersecurity experts to investigate the breach and bolster security across its platforms. Customers affected by the breach have been notified and offered one year of free credit monitoring services to protect against potential identity theft. The company has also advised customers to remain vigilant and monitor their financial accounts for any suspicious activity.

Avis is part of the larger Avis Budget Group, which operates in over 165 countries. The company has not yet disclosed how many customers were affected or provided details about the attack’s nature but continues to strengthen its security protocols to prevent future incidents(BleepingComputer)(JD Supra)
