Ingram Micro Confirms Ransomware Attack, Works to Restore Order Processing and Global Deliveries
Irvine, California – Ingram Micro, the global IT distribution giant with annual revenues exceeding $48 billion, has confirmed it was the target of a ransomware attack that has disrupted its operations worldwide, including its ability to process and ship customer orders.
In a press release issued on July 5, Ingram Micro stated it is “working diligently to restore the affected systems so that it can process and ship orders,” following a significant cyberattack that began on July 3. The company said it has notified law enforcement authorities and is collaborating with “leading cybersecurity experts” to investigate and contain the breach.
“We take this incident very seriously,” the statement read. “Our teams are working around the clock to restore operations as quickly and safely as possible.”
According to cybersecurity publication BleepingComputer, the attack was reportedly orchestrated by the Safepay ransomware group, a known cybercriminal organization that has previously targeted global supply chain and logistics firms. As of this report, Ingram Micro’s website and online ordering systems remain offline, affecting partners and customers across Europe, North America, and Asia.
Global Disruption in IT Supply Chain
The ransomware incident has impacted order fulfillment and delivery operations across multiple regions, according to reporting by ITPro. Industry insiders say the disruption could have ripple effects throughout the IT channel, as Ingram Micro is a key supplier for thousands of value-added resellers, system integrators, and service providers.
“Ingram Micro plays a critical role in global IT distribution. Any delay in their logistics network directly affects hardware availability, especially in time-sensitive markets like cloud infrastructure and enterprise networking,” said a senior analyst at TechSupplyWatch.
The extent of the breach, the nature of any data compromised, and whether ransom demands were made have not yet been publicly disclosed. The company has not confirmed if it intends to engage with the attackers or whether customer or partner data was accessed.
Ongoing Investigation and Recovery
Cybersecurity professionals are assisting Ingram Micro with forensics, threat containment, and systems recovery. The company said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
This incident is the latest in a string of high-profile ransomware attacks on supply chain and IT infrastructure firms, reflecting a growing trend of cybercriminals targeting organizations with large digital footprints and critical operational systems.
