IDF Launches Overnight Airstrike on Hezbollah’s Intelligence Headquarters in Beirut Amid Escalating Conflict
In an overnight airstrike, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) targeted Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Beirut, marking one of the heaviest bombings of the Lebanese capital in recent months. The airstrikes focused on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which have long been strongholds of Hezbollah, and specifically targeted buildings used by the group’s intelligence operations. The attacks came amid escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah as part of the broader conflict in the region that also includes ongoing hostilities in Gaza.
The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that over 1,000 people have been killed since the start of these intensified bombings, with many more displaced from their homes. The IDF stated that the airstrike aimed at Hezbollah was part of an effort to secure Israel’s northern border amid rising hostilities. Lebanese sources mentioned that at least 11 strikes were conducted, with some of them also hitting an evacuated building used as Hezbollah’s media relations office.
In response to Israeli ground raids into southern Lebanon, Hezbollah continued to launch cross-border rocket attacks and engage in skirmishes with Israeli forces, further intensifying the conflict. The situation remains highly volatile, with fears of a wider escalation involving regional players like Iran, which supports Hezbollah militarily and financially. The conflict has also resulted in strikes beyond Lebanon, including reported Israeli attacks in Syria, targeting pro-Hezbollah operatives there.
These developments have added pressure on Lebanon, a country already struggling with economic and political turmoil, and have contributed to a broader escalation in the Middle East involving multiple actors and rising regional tensions(Al-Monitor)(Jordan Times)(The Times of Israel).
