North Korea Poised to Send Troops to Ukraine in Support of Russia, Reports Say

North Korea is highly likely to dispatch troops to Ukraine as part of support for Russia, recent reports show, in an apparent major enhancement in military cooperation between the two nations. South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun said that North Korean soldiers may also be participating in fighting as part of Russian forces, with reports surfacing from Ukraine indicating some have already suffered casualties.

The discussions sailing came after Kim Numchongs of Russia, firmware national interests following the completion of his joint defense in June 2024 was agreed between Christine Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un. This also would mark a heightened level of involvement in the conflict this far, as Russia has been accused in recent days of receiving weapons and artillery from North Korea.

The strengthening of ties between Pyongyang and Moscow has been condemned by Western nations, notably the U.S. who have warned about how this will impact its military conflict in Ukraine. And should shed an even more complex dimension on a conflict that has been remarkably internationalized, bringing in multiple global powers — starting from Turkey and later Russia.
